Giant Wax Strip

Voting System: In which the participator places coins on the heads of either Salvador Dali or Damien Hirst, depending on the recognition of the idol. In a similar way to what is done in orthodox churches to images of religious figures.  The focus was on the face of the artist as celebrity and not there art. The money obscured the 'art' and eventually the artist.

I wish I was Andy Warhol: the bank note candle melts into the mould of Andy Warhol to create a new candle. Candles melted in the church are burnt in order to release a prayer or a wish. Here I wanted to quantify where the physical matter went. The exhange of one thing into another.

I am interested in the replacement of religion for art. the pilgrimage to certain destinations of art such as famous museums and galleries to gain 'culture' and also the change from a religious dictated art establishment to one heavily influenced by monetary values. As well as the role of a patron in art of today and the growing accessibility of art for the general public that thrives from entertainment factors.
